“It was a bright day, with layers of clouds building and shifting across the spaces of the sky, some of them stretched out as thin as a mist, others as thick and dense as flesh with their own bruised colours.”
Threads – The Delicate Life of John Craske. Julia Blackburn
From the Olive and George collection, drawing inspiration from the Norfolk fishermen’s Gansey jumpers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Curly is a women’s beanie hat, pared down to an essential shape it focuses on functionality and comfort.
It is knitted from the purest, Italian spun cashmere which is either 100% traceable and organic (for the natural cream colour) or dyed using natural dyes (for the russet yellow/green colour). Alfred Magnus “Curly” Catlin (1883-1961) was a well known local character in the Norfolk coastal village of Cley whose signature Gansey jumper is carefully stored at Cromer Museum.
Knitted in either the fully traceable un-dyed and Italian spun organic cashmere, produced by cashmere goats which are carefully reared on one single farm in Inner Mongolia. The yarn is certified as organic and is 100% traceable.
It is to our knowledge the only yarn on the market that can make this claim. The Russet yellow/green version of this jumper is knitted from the highest quality cashmere spun in Italy and dyed using 100% natural dyes. This particular shade comes from the “Weld” plant – which creates a natural dye, producing a lovely yellow/green tone – similar to that of an English Russet apple.
