I'm just getting started on research for some new additions to the collection and came upon this lovely image of fisherman Benjamin Christopher Brown with his son or nephew, both wearing their Gansey jumpers circa 1909, probably in Sheringham.

❄ Over the past couple of weeks my posts have be

❄ Over the past couple of weeks my posts have been a few and far between. This is largely to do with having busy little people at home with me - which is likely to continue for a while - but also due to the difficult news we're all dealing with at the moment.

🌱 I can't help but feel like the best thing to do is batten down the hatches, like a ship in a storm or, as I've noticed whilst out on my numerous (daily!) walks, do what nature does at this time of year; hibernate on the surface, whilst busily nurturing my roots behind the scenes ready for the spring and the longer, brighter days that will undoubtedly follow. As I get older, one of the things I've learnt is that, like the changing of the seasons, things do move on and change.

🧡 So, whilst in hibernation why not nurture both body and mind with favourite clothes, food, exercise, books and films so that when the spring comes, you're ready for action!

🧣 I've picked up my knitting again too - a very slow process but the results will be rewarding!

☀️ Making the most of the light

How has your day been?

The days seem so short at the moment and to be honest, I'm OK with that.

🌅 The precious day light reaches a crescendo then the warm orange sun begins to set with a muffled glow. Hibernation seems the order of the day, the natural choice. I'm happy to hibernate with my new Christmas candles and research books full of ideas for the new season.

🌱 I went on a hunt for spring bulbs and snowdrops today but nothing yet.

⛼ For now, I'll sort, edit and get organized...

🌅 Just stepping out of the chaos for a couple of minutes because I wanted to have a little think about how I feel at the end of this year , looking towards the new one...

🧡 In spite of the terrible year, I have felt so surprised and encouraged by the support I've had from you all during my first year working on my business; Charl Knitwear, so a BIG thank you! I feel like there is a real community of like-minded people out there who support, share and inspire and I have loved being a part of this.

🌟 I always feel a bit sad on New Year's Eve as memories slip a little bit further away, but I'm trying (as always) to remember that these create space for new ones and after all, you can never have too many memories!

🇮🇹 This New Years Eve I am really missing Italy - those of you who know me will know that I've spent much of my adult life out there and it has had a real influence on my creative practice. I'm hoping to return to see my friends and favourite places as soon as we are able.

🌅 But for now, the walks and runs I have taken up during this year of lock down, to my local haunts are still bringing me comfort and inspiration, even when everything seems to be hibernating; the sunsets we've had over here in Warwickshire over the past few days have created such a beautiful warm light that they've inspired me to start work on some new ideas - which I hope to share with you soon...

🌟 I'd like to wish you all luck with your projects, ideas, hopes and dreams for 2021 and look forward to sharing with you on-line and hopefully in person in the near future.

🎁 By now, I hope you’ve got all your Christmas shopping done, Christmas cards written (I’ve still to finish mine!) and are just adding the finishing touches to your Christmas food shop!

🌅 I was reading an interview with Charlie Mackesy (author of The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse) last night and where he talks about hibernating at about four o’clock when the sun sets in the Winter and this suddenly sounded very appealing!

⭐ Winter walks are so lovely at this time of year when the weather is dry like today, the colours are muted frosty tones with a pale light that sparkles till noon, then fades again.

🍃 I hope you have time to enjoy what's going on outside in nature, during the build up to this busy time of year, even if it's just for a quick walk...
