Cooper

“He did the sails, working with the wind if there was a wind and with nothing at all if they were simply letting themselves go with the pull of the tide.”
Threads – The Delicate Life of John Craske. Julia Blackburn.
From the Olive and George collection, drawing inspiration from the Norfolk Fishermen’s Gansey jumpers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Cooper is a unisex, one size only fisherman’s beanie hat.
Its namesake was Cutty Cooper, a Sheringham fisherman, working the waters around 1900. His gansey was rich with fishing iconography, including several bands of rings and furrows and a section of hailstone stitch which have been adapted to fit this snug beanie hat.
Description
This piece has been knitted in fully traceable 100% British worsted wool, spun in Yorkshire for decades and knitted in Italy.
This yarn is plied up to create a luxurious, tactile knit which makes the various stitches stand out and look three dimensional. The rib at the hat opening folds back on itself and the overall fit is snug to keep you warm during stormy weather.
