West – Polo Collar

“It was a bright day, with layers of clouds building and shifting across the spaces of the sky, some of them stretched out as thin as a mist, others as thick and dense as flesh with their own bruised colours.”
Threads – The Delicate Life of John Craske. Julia Blackburn
The Charl West polo collar knit has been made in England from the finest merino and OEKO_TEX certified cotton yarn. It has fashion-back shoulders, a neat ribbed collar buttonless placket. It has a boxy silhouette which makes it feel light and airy for the British spring and summer time. The sleeves are elbow length and remain wide at the opening – like a T shirt fit. The authentic Norfolk “Herringbone” design has been enlarged and re-positioned just above the rib, creating a continuous pattern around the base of the garment. The West Gansey group take their name from the West family, a four-generation fishing family from Sheringham, Norfolk who used the “herringbone” motif on their Gansey jumpers.
Description
The yarn for this style has been spun to order in Italy from a very high quality Oeko-Tex certified Pima cotton (46%) and mulesing free extrafine merino (54%) blend, then knitted in Nottinghamshire. It is tightly twisted to minimise the risk of pilling and ensure colourfastness. The high merino wool content means it won’t loose its shape over time, but it will spring back when steamed or washed. It comes in three sizes: XS/S (to fit a women’s size 8-10), S/M (to fit a women’s size 10-12) and M/L (to fit a women’s size 12-14).
The WEST polo shirt is knitted in a mid-weight knit with side splits and boxy proportions which give it a reassuringly dense handle while still being airy enough to keep you feeling cool in the unreliable British summertime. I’ve been looking for an alternative to a crew or funnel neck for those of you who find these neck shapes unflattering and I’m really pleased with this one. The buttonless placket which stops comfortably above the bust creates an open neck shape that elongates the neck and detracts from a larger bust. The yarn is so soft you’ll want to wear it next to your skin and the boxy proportions mean this piece looks great French-tucked into a high waistband or left easy, midway between the waist and hips.
Available in Dark Navy Blue and Tobacco.
