“They would set out when the tide was high and they would drift with its ebb as slow as anything. They might collect cockles from the banks and they always took a fishing line and sometimes caught a dab or two.”
Threads-The delicate Life of John Craske. Julia Blackburn.
The Edie jumper takes its cue from the traditional nautical knitwear worn by Norfolk fishermen in the 19th and early 20th centuries. With timeless nautical stripes and a classic polo collar, it’s a piece that feels both nostalgic and modern.
Named after Edie Middleton—a celebrated Sheringham knitter known for her beautiful “coils o’ rope” and “herringbone” patterns—this jumper carries the spirit of craftsmanship and tradition into every stitch.
The design features a flattering raglan shoulder, adapted from my popular Chibbles funnel neck, so the stripes flow seamlessly across the shoulders and onto back. Straight-cut sleeves make this piece easy to layer under a winter coat or autumn jacket, while the soft stepped hem with side splits gives a flattering, contemporary shape.
Wear it your way—tucked into high-waisted trousers, left loose over jeans for a casual weekend look, or layered with a camisole or tee. However you style it, Edie brings an elegant ease to everyday dressing.
