The Charl West spring weight Gansey cardigan is knitted in England from the finest merino and organic cotton yarn. It has fashion back shoulders, a neat crew neck and a boxy silhouette which makes it feel light and airy for the British spring and summer time. The sleeves are regular length; wider at the arm hole, tapering into the cuff, like the original Gansey knits, which makes them easy to wear over summer dresses and blouses. The authentic Norfolk “Herringbone” design has been enlarged and re-positioned just above the rib, creating a continuous pattern around the base of the garment. The West Gansey group take their name from the West family, a four-generation fishing family from Sheringham, Norfolk who used the “herringbone” motif on their Gansey jumpers.
Description
The yarn for this style has been spun to order from a very high quality Oeko-Tex certified organic Pima cotton (46%) and mulesing free extrafine merino (54%) blend, then knitted in Nottinghamshire. it is tightly twisted to minimise the risk of pilling and colourfast. The high merino wool content means it won’t loose its shape over time, but it will spring back into shape when steamed or washed. It comes in two sizes S/M (to fit a women’s size 10-12) and M/L (to fit a women’s size 12-14). This style has a deliberately boxy fit so that it is light and airy for the British spring-summer months and can be worn layered over a T shirt or worn next to the skin due to its softness. The perfect mixture of warmth and cosiness, designed to be pulled over the shoulders when the breeze picks up or the sun hides behind a cloud!
Comes in Milk White, Dark Navy Blue, Royal Blue and Tobacco.
MEASUREMENTS:
We have tightened the knitting tension on this style for Spring ’25 so that the sizes come out slightly neater fitting. We would recommend ordering your true size for a regular fit.
*Size XS/S measures 54cm in length and 57cm at the chest, 50cm at the hem and 50.5cm across the shoulders
Size S/M measures 56 cm in length and 57cm wide at the chest, 53cm wide at hem, 52cm across shoulders.
Size M/L measures 58cm in length and 60cm wide at the chest, 56m wide at welt and 53.5cm across shoulders.
It has neat, long sleeves that finish at the base of the wrist and a crew neck trim knitted in a 1×1 rib.
Currently available in Milk White or Dark Navy Blue.
