The Kitty is knitted in exceptionally soft British wool from the Uping Down heritage Shetland flock, grazing in the Upper Frome Valley of West Dorset. Every sheep in the flock is named, and we know which animals contributed to the wool used in this jumper – making Kitty a truly traceable knitwear piece, from flock to finished garment.

Richly knitted in heritage Gansey stitches, including traditional ‘meshes’, ‘rungs’ and ‘hailstones’, this contemporary Gansey jumper has raglan sleeves, external seam detailing and Charl’s signature relaxed proportions. The wide funnel neck sits away from the neck, giving the jumper a modern silhouette while retaining the character and craftsmanship of the original Norfolk Gansey.

Knitted in a lightweight five-gauge weight, the wool is remarkably soft, downy and airy against the skin. It makes Kitty the perfect soft knitwear layer – warm enough for cooler days, yet light enough to wear comfortably under a coat or jacket.

The jumper is crafted in our specialist Italian knitting atelier, where experts with decades of luxury knitwear experience and closely guarded washing and finishing techniques to bring out the exceptional softness of this particular British wool.

Made in very small batches, Kitty will not be remade this season. The limited availability reflects the exclusivity of the flock and the finite amount of wool available each season.

Why Kitty? She is named after one of the sheep who contributed to the wool: Kitty, a leading member of the Uping Down flock and a regular show competitor, whose fleece has won numerous prizes.
